Watch our instructional video, or read on to learn about the browser extension.

What is Upheal's browser extension?

Do you hold your sessions on a calling, video conferencing, telehealth, or EHR platform that isn’t integrated with Upheal, such as SimplePractice, Doxy.me, or Google Meet? You can get all the benefits of using Upheal and keep holding calls on your preferred platform seamlessly. Upheal’s browser extension is our solution to easy integration with your favorite EHR and calling tools. And, you don't have to change or install anything in your EHR program.

Upheal’s browser extension lets you:

  • Capture the audio from any call you make within your web browser

  • Capture both sides of the conversation even while wearing headphones

  • Copy and paste all of your Upheal notes into any EHR tool without switching between browser tabs

Upheal’s browser extension is only for Google Chrome (but works on both Windows and Apple devices). You need to be signed in to Chrome to use the extension.

If you don’t want to use Chrome, you can still use the Audio recorder to capture sessions held on any calling platform, but be aware that you’ll need a second device for running the recorder. For Zoom users, we have a separate Zoom integration.

Installing the browser extension

If you or your employer have set up strict security settings in Chrome, you might see the message “This extension is not trusted by Enhanced Safe Browsing” upon installation. Upheal’s browser extension is safe, secure, and HIPAA compliant, and it’s been officially reviewed, approved, and listed in the Chrome Web Store by Google. However, since it’s new to Chrome, Google just needs a bit more time to run the standard procedure that all new extensions are subject to, so that the extension can be officially indexed as secure.

To install:

  1. Open Google Chrome. (It’s quick to download if you don’t already have it.)

  2. Make sure you’re signed in to Chrome so you can add extensions.

  3. Follow this link to our browser extension’s page in the Chrome Web Store.

  4. Click Add to Chrome.

  5. Click Add to Chrome again to confirm.

  6. You don't need to do anything in your EHR or any other program — Upheal's browser extension works completely independently.

We recommend pinning the Upheal extension to your browser to make it easier to access.

To pin:

  1. In Chrome, click on the puzzle piece icon next to the URL bar at the top of your screen.

  2. Click on the pin icon beside the Upheal browser extension. Now, the Upheal icon will always be at the top of your screen, beside the extensions icon.

Note: The extension can be launched only in tabs that are opened (or refreshed) after it’s been installed. If you can’t open the extension, try refreshing the tab.

Capturing a session with the browser extension

  1. Make sure you’re signed in to Upheal. If you were signed in when you installed the browser extension, you’ll already be automatically signed in. If not, sign in now.

  2. Begin your call as usual. We recommend starting your call first and waiting for all parties to join before launching the extension.

  3. In the same browser tab, click on the Upheal extension.

  4. A tray on the right side of the screen will open, and you’ll see your most recent sessions.

  5. To begin capturing the session, click Start session recording.

  6. You’ll be asked to confirm permission for accessing your microphone. Click Allow.

  7. Select the client with whom you’re holding a session. If your client hasn’t already given consent to session processing, you’ll have the opportunity to collect consent via email now or confirm you’ve collected consent outside of Upheal. More on client consent.

  8. Now, the session recording starts. The side tray will close automatically, and you’ll see a small widget telling you that the session is being recorded. You can:

    • Pause or stop the recording at any time

    • Click and drag to move the widget around

  9. When you’re ready to end the session, click the stop button on the widget.

  10. Upheal will confirm that the session has been captured. Here, you can:

    • Change the session’s note type in the Note type dropdown menu

    • Choose to keep the audio recording

    • Process the recording and get session notes: Click Upload and process

    • Delete the session: Click Delete session

Upheal will process your session automatically. In a few minutes, your notes will appear right there in the browser extension, where you can quickly copy and paste them. (To edit notes, use the Upheal app.)

Copying and pasting notes from the browser extension

With Upheal’s browser extension, you can copy and paste session notes into your favorite EHR tool without even leaving your browser tab. This applies to all Upheal notes, regardless of whether they were processed via the extension or Upheal app.

  1. In the browser tab where you’ll be pasting the notes, open the Upheal browser extension.

  2. Find your session.

  3. Click on the clipboard icon to copy the notes.

  4. Paste anywhere. That’s it!
